Great Ocean Road & Grampians - 3 day tour
Coastal • Nature & Wildlife • Multi-day
-
Meet your local guide at 8:00 a.m. at your chosen Melbourne hotel to begin an unforgettable journey along one of the world’s most scenic coastal routes, the Great Ocean Road.
As you travel from Torquay to Apollo Bay, the road winds along forested cliffs, passing pristine surf beaches and quaint seaside villages. The lush hinterland, filled with towering gum trees, is home to native wildlife such as koalas, kangaroos, and vibrant parrots. Enjoy a lunch featuring locally sourced seafood in the charming coastal town of Apollo Bay.
Next, the route shifts inland, weaving through semi-temperate rainforests in the Great Otway National Park. Here, a rainforest walk will take you through ferny gullies, moss-covered timber, and refreshing freshwater cascades. Afterward, you’ll reach the highlight of your trip—the iconic Twelve Apostles. These limestone formations, shaped by the powerful waves of the Southern Ocean, create a dramatic coastline. Take in the views from cliff-edge boardwalks or opt for an aerial perspective with a short helicopter flight.
As the day winds down, check into your accommodation at Anchors Villas, offering stunning views over the maritime village of Port Campbell. For dinner, your guide can transport you to a classic Australian pub where you can mingle with locals and enjoy regional produce (dinner at your own expense).
-
After a restful sleep, rise early for an unforgettable sunrise viewing at the Twelve Apostles (optional). Enjoy breakfast before exploring some of the lesser-visited but equally breathtaking natural wonders of Port Campbell National Park.
Continue inland to the Southern Grampians National Park, stopping for a light lunch in the quaint rural town of Dunkeld. The region’s mountainous beauty is showcased to its fullest extent with an optional hike to the summit of The Piccaninny. This easy, gradual climb through open forest (featuring stunning wildflower displays in spring) culminates in jaw-dropping views of Mount Abrupt.
As dusk descends, kangaroos, wallabies, and a myriad of birdlife enliven the dramatic surroundings of the Royal Mail Hotel, your accommodation for the evening. Join your host to learn about the hotel’s captive breeding program and environmental initiatives, and get up close with endangered native Australian animals.
For dinner (at your own expense), the Royal Mail features two restaurants: the esteemed fine dining Wickens at Royal Mail Hotel (Wed – Sat) and the more casual Parker Street Project (Daily).
-
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, then don comfortable walking shoes as we explore one of the northern Grampians' breathtaking tracks, suitable for both novice and experienced hikers. Take in stunning views of the rugged mountain range and the surrounding pastoral land. In spring, the region erupts in a dazzling display of wildflowers. Enjoy a casual picnic lunch at Mackenzie Falls, Victoria’s largest waterfall.
After departing the Grampians National Park, visit Mount Langi Ghiran Winery, one of Australia’s most celebrated producers of Shiraz and a jewel in the crown of the esteemed Grampians wine region. Join your host for a structured tasting of their exceptional wines before returning to Melbourne.
